Social welfare certificates — online GP support in Ireland
If you need a medical certificate or help completing the medical sections of social welfare forms for the Department of Social Protection, you can book a secure video consultation with a GP registered with the Medical Council of Ireland. Documentation is issued only where the doctor considers it clinically appropriate after a genuine consultation — never guaranteed at booking.
Consultation fee: €40. Shown before you confirm and pay.
What this service is for
People in Ireland sometimes need medical documentation to support social welfare applications — for example Illness Benefit, Disability Allowance, or other schemes that ask for a GP’s medical opinion or form sections.
GPLine provides an online GP consultation so a Medical Council–registered doctor can assess your situation, advise on next steps, and — where appropriate — provide a medical certificate or complete relevant medical parts of the form you bring.
Social welfare vs employer sick certs
An employer sick cert is usually a short medical certificate confirming you are unfit for work for stated dates. Social welfare documentation can be different: some schemes need specific DSP/eCert forms or more detailed medical information.
Bring the exact form and any supporting records to your consultation so the GP can see what the authority is asking for. Approval of benefits is always decided by the Department of Social Protection (or relevant body) — not by GPLine.
How to prepare for your appointment
Have the relevant social welfare form ready (photo or PDF if you can upload documents securely). Keep recent medical letters, clinic notes or medicine lists to hand.
Be ready to explain clearly what documentation you need and why. The GP will tell you honestly whether they can complete it after assessing you by video.
What we cannot guarantee
A booking pays for a clinical assessment. It does not purchase a certificate, form completion, or benefit approval. The doctor may decline documentation if it is not clinically appropriate or if a face-to-face examination is required.
What this service does not cover
- Certificates or form completion without a genuine video consultation.
- Guaranteeing Illness Benefit, Disability Allowance or any DSP decision.
- Completing forms the doctor has not assessed or that require an in-person exam.
- Emergencies — call 999 or 112.
Frequently asked questions
- Will this get my social welfare claim approved?
- No. GPLine provides clinical assessment and, where appropriate, medical documentation. Eligibility and decisions rest with the Department of Social Protection or the relevant authority.
- Is this the same as a sick cert for work?
- Not always. Employer sick certs and social welfare forms can differ. Tell your GP which document you need and bring the form to the consultation.
- Do I need to upload my form before the visit?
- Yes if possible — have the form and supporting records ready so the doctor can review what is required during your appointment.
- Who are the doctors?
- Consultations are with doctors registered with the Medical Council of Ireland. Certificates show the doctor’s name and registration details where issued.
