Urinary symptoms are common and often uncomfortable. Many uncomplicated cases in otherwise well adults can be assessed by video. A Medical Council–registered GP can advise and, where clinically appropriate, prescribe. Antibiotics are never automatic — and some symptoms need urgent in-person care.
When a video visit may suit
Typical early urinary symptoms in an otherwise well adult — without fever or severe pain — can often be discussed safely by video. Have a clear description of when symptoms started and any medicines you already take.

- Symptoms for a short number of days
When to seek urgent or in-person care instead
Do not wait for a routine video booking if you have red-flag symptoms. Go to urgent care, your local out-of-hours service, or emergency care as needed.
- High fever, shaking or feeling very unwell
- Severe flank or back pain (possible kidney infection)
- Blood in the urine
- Pregnancy, recent catheter use, or known kidney problems
- Symptoms in a young child
