Online Paediatric GP Consultation in Ireland

A parent or legal guardian must be present for any consultation about a child. A GP registered with the Medical Council of Ireland can assess many non-emergency childhood illnesses by video, but this service is conservative — when in doubt, the doctor will advise in-person care.

Consultation fee: €45. Shown before you confirm and pay.

What we can help with

Non-emergency concerns such as coughs and colds, rashes, conjunctivitis, mild fever with otherwise well child, hay fever, and advice on whether your child needs to see someone in person.

A parent or guardian must be visible and available throughout the consultation.

  • Coughs, colds and sore throats
  • Rashes (where assessable on video)
  • Conjunctivitis advice
  • Hay fever
  • School absence certificates where clinically appropriate

When not to use telemedicine for a child

Do not use GPLine for a child who is very unwell, lethargic, has difficulty breathing, persistent high fever in a young infant, signs of dehydration, a non-blanching rash, seizure, or any situation where you would normally call 999 or go to an emergency department.

Babies under three months with fever need urgent in-person assessment — call your GP out-of-hours service or attend emergency care.

How it works

Book a slot, ensure a parent or guardian is present, and have the child available on camera. The GP will assess whether remote care is safe or whether in-person review is needed.

What this service does not cover

  • Emergency or severely unwell children — call 999 or 112.
  • Physical examination of infants and young children where video is insufficient.
  • Vaccinations or immunisations.
  • Guaranteed school certificates.

Frequently asked questions

Does a parent need to be present?
Yes. A parent or legal guardian must be present and consent to the consultation throughout.
Can my child get a sick cert for school?
Where clinically appropriate after assessment, a GP may issue a medical certificate. This is at the doctor's discretion.
What age children can you see?
The GP will assess whether video consultation is appropriate for the child's age and condition. Some cases will always be directed to in-person care.
